Tuesday at the Delbert J. Glenn Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. George Griffin, pastor of and give it to the gallery. Sadik did not identify the seller. Sadik said the donor is David Pillsbury Becker, Brunswick, Maine, an art collector.

The daguerreotype was made in early August of 1843 in Utica, N.Y., when Adams was 76, Sadik said. On the back of it it a piece of paper with handwriting saying: "This is a picture of John Quincy Adams taken by Grandfather Bishop Dr. Avery of Hamilton College. Grandfather gave it to me. Mary R.

Hyde." Adams, then a congressman, had been to Niagara Falls and stopped off in Utica where a nephew and an old friend, Judge Ezeikiel Bacon, lived. Adams' diary for Aug. 1, 1843, says: "Four daguerreotype likenesses of my head were taken, two of them jointly with the head of Mr. Bacon. All hideous." His diary for the next day says: "At seven this morning Mr.

Bacon came and I went with him to the Shadow Shop, where three more Daguerreo EVERETT R. CHERRY CALHOUN Services for Everett R. Cherry, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Muster Funeral Home in Calhoun with the Rev. L.

The Weather Figures supplied by U.S. Weather Observer Virgil Clark: Yesterday's high: 73 Yesterday's low: 49 A year ago today: high 50, low identified as a rare one of John Quincy Adams, the first president to be photographed. It is a featured exhibit at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery show of the life portraits of the sixth president, who served 1825-29 and later was a member of Congress until his death in 1848. It's only the third daguerreotype of Adams known to exist, and apparently was taken in 1843. Marvin S.

Sadik, director of the gallery, said it's one of those Adams describes in his diary as hideous, and "too true to the original." Sadik said a young man interested in collecting daguerreotypes, an early form of photography, found this one in an Atlanta, shop and sent it to the gallery for authentication. Experts decided that the small picture on copper plate, about two by three inches, was, indeed, one of Adams. "There's not the slightest doubt," Sadik said in an interview. "It indisputably looks like the grizzled old man." Arrangements were made for someone to buy the picture "for a four-figure sum," Sadik said, Wednesday at the chapel of the James H. Lucian Stowaway Seized CARACAS (AP) Venezuelan airport guards seized Sunday a 20-year-old youth who had bound himself to the landing gear of a Spanish airliner bound for Bogota, Colombia. The would-be stowaway, Fernando Escobar-Cabrera, also had with him a cardboard box containing two pairs of pants, shirts and a toothbrush. Escobar-Cabrera, who had used ropes to tie himself to the landing gear of the Iberia Airlines jetliner at Maiquetia airport, told guards he "wanted to see the world" and couldn't afford a ticket. Last February a 15-year-old Australian boy fell 150 feet to his death when he tried to hide in the wheel compartment of a Japanese jetliner en route to Tokyo from Sydney. It was an honor to be here." It will take until at least today before the hoped for contributions start arriving by mail. A post office box has been set up and appeals throughout the show were made for those wishing to donate.

They were asked to mail their contributions. More than 200 television stations in 49 states agreed to carry the program. Many carried the telecast Saturday night. Show producers said others would broadcast the show Sunday and still others tonight. The separate plane crashes killed 38 Marshall and 14 Wichita State football players and 54 others, including coaches and fans.

The first crash involving Wichita State took place Oct. 2 in Colorado. The Marshall crash was on Nov. 14. The $175,000 gate receipts went into the Wichita State fund.

Wichita State and Marshall will share equally in contributions received from the telecast appeals. The telecast included appearances by several well-known performers, and Ohio State University football coach Woody Hayes read a message from President Nixon saying the First Family "fully shares widespread concern for those who grieve the loss of their loved ones." Some of the money will be used to set up scholarships in memory of those who died, and for education funds for children of many of those killed. Wichita State also has a sep- arate program called the "Foot- ball '70 Memorial Fund," which goes for other needs, such as ex- penses in taking relatives to i Denver where bodies and in- jured were, transporting bodies and injured home for burial or to home-area hospitals.
