The Hawaiian Chicken Recipe

I love easy weeknight meals, and this is easy with a capital E. It only takes a few minutes to prep and make.

It’s perfect for someone like me who comes home from a long day at work and wants to whip up something fast. It’s also fairly easy to throw into the slow cooker and cook all day, but I like the Instant Pot method for this recipe.

Make sure the lid is securely sealed and then place the Instant Pot on manual mode and cook with High pressure for about 13 minutes. Don’t forget to place the steam valve over to “sealing”. When time is up, hit cancel and allow 5-10 minutes to naturally release pressure.

FAQs

How do you keep chicken from getting tough in Instant Pot? ›

The key to getting perfectly juicy boneless chicken breasts is to cook them on a trivet, above the liquid. I find that this results in a better texture than cooking them on the bottom of the pot. I also think their texture is best when you quickly release the pressure, rather than letting it naturally release.

Does chicken get more tender the longer you cook it in an Instant Pot? ›

Instant Pot Chicken Wings

The 5 minutes did get them to the safe 165F after the resting period BUT they were far from fall-off the bone. Just like for the whole legs or just thighs and drumsticks longer cooking equals more tender and fall-off the bone meat.

How much liquid do I add to Instant Pot for chicken? ›

You can cook chicken breasts in whatever size instant pot you have. Just make sure you add at least 1 cup of liquid, and then place the chicken in the pot in a single layer.

Can you cook chicken in Instant Pot without liquid? ›

Cooking chicken without liquid in a pressure cooker may result in burning, scorching or unevenly cooked chicken. To cook chicken in a pressure cooker, you will need to add at least a small amount of liquid, such as water or broth, to the pot.

Does pressure cooking chicken longer make it softer? ›

Cooking any meat on high heat (or high pressure) for an extended period will both: denature more the proteins / collagen making the meat more tender; "squeeze" more water out of the meat, making it drier / chalkier in texture.

Does chicken get tough in pressure cooker? ›

Quick vs.

In natural pressure release, the cooker is left to cool down on its own (partially or fully) before the lid is opened. Natural release is recommended when pressure cooking braised meats. Quick pressure release can cause chicken to shrink and become tough.

Do you cover meat with liquid in pressure cooker? ›

No, just enough to keep moist while cooking - add more if you need to but usually the meat releases liquid as it cooks and it is not necessary to add more liquid.

Should I slow cook or pressure cook chicken? ›

So can a Crock-Pot cook better chicken than an Instant Pot? Well, it really depends on what you're making. The Instant Pot cooks chicken much faster than its non-pressure counterparts, but the resulting texture isn't going to be the same as what you'd get with a slow cooker or Dutch oven.

What is the best meat to pressure cook? ›

You can still pressure cook leaner pieces – like eye of round and top sirloin – but these work best if they've been stuffed, shredded or rolled (with other ingredients). Best cuts of beef to use: Chuck steak, Round Roast, Shoulder, Pot roast, Ribs, Brisket, Oxtail.

How do you stop a chicken from being tough? ›

Pounding helps tenderize the meat by breaking down its tough fibers. It also thins it out for more even cooking. Do this before frying, grilling, or roasting for better retention of moisture content. To tenderize chicken breast, place the meat on a durable, flat surface.

Why is my chicken tough after I cooked it? ›

When chicken gets hard after cooking, it is usually due to overcooking or cooking it at too high of a temperature. Chicken is made up of proteins, and when exposed to high heat for an extended period, these proteins can contract and become tough and dry.
